Human Rights Myanmar on Abuse Against Persons with Disabilities in Myanmar.
February 17 2025
A statement was issued by Human Rights Myanmar on the 17 February in respect of its submission to the United Nation Special Rapporteur on Myanmar pertaining to the killings, torture, and persecution of persons with disabilities in Myanmar.
The report contained the outrageous human rights violations committed against the persons with disabilities in Myanmar since the year 2021 coup. The report states how the military junta disregarded the domestic law and the country’s obligations under the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
By basing their focus on executions, extrajudicial killings, and brutal mistreatment of person in detention, Human Rights Myanmar has exposes how persons with disabilities are perceived and treated by the military. The violations also reflect broader patterns of violence and discrimination against this group of persons.
The Human Rights Myanmar asserts that the intentional targeting and disproportionate harm done to persons with disabilities is a violation of international human rights and humanitarian law which will amount to crimes against humanity and war crimes.
