Israel Condemns United Nations Report Alleging Crimes Against Humanity
The State of Israel has strongly condemned a report by the United Nations, which accuses it of committing crimes against humanity. Critics of the report argue that, in focusing on Israel, the United Nations has neglected to address the actions of Hamas.
The report, compiled by human rights lawyers and submitted to the United Nations Human Rights Council, alleges that Israel has systematically destroyed healthcare facilities catering to women and has employed sexual violence as a strategy of warfare.
Chris Sidoti, a representative of the Commission of Inquiry on the "Occupied Palestinian Territory," stated: "Sexual and gender-based violence is increasingly being utilized as a weapon of war by Israel to destabilize, dominate, oppress, and ultimately annihilate the Palestinian people." He further asserted that "the Commission has documented a pattern of sexual violence, including instances of rape, other forms of sexual assault, torture, and inhumane acts that constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity."
Israel's Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa’ar, vehemently rejected these allegations, declaring: "We have witnessed an unimaginable blood libel."
Sa’ar further denounced the commission’s findings, stating: "The so-called Commission of Inquiry of the United Nations Human Rights Council has issued one of the most egregious blood libels in history – and we have encountered many before."
