"I very much enjoyed
the novel. I like the foregrounding of the complexities of the society, and
indeed the foregrounding of language. It's as if the world's being woven as it's
read. There is, of course, a cumulative narrative energy - and I'm intrigued
concerning the battle to come - but it's the texture of the novel that I
particularly enjoy, as when I'm reading medieval romance (or, somewhat
different, Mervyn Peake). Congratulations and I wish you every success with it."
