A Yenagoa based Human
Rights Activist, Wisdom Adike, aka: Junior Gani, has sued the President of
Nigeria, the Attorney General of the Federation, the EFCC, and three others
over the recent invasion of the premises of Hon. Justice Mary Ukaego Peter
Odili of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
In a Motion on Notice
filed in the Federal High Court of Nigeria, with Suit No: FHC/YNC/CS/107/2021,
which was brought under the relevant orders and rules of the Fundamental Rights
(Enforcement procedure) Rules, 2009, Mr. Wisdom Adike, as applicant, is suing
to enforce amongst others, the Justice’s right to dignity, personal liberty,
freedom of movement.
The Application which
is supported by a twenty-four paragraph affidavit deposed to by the Applicant,
a statement in line with the FREP Rules, and a written address, is seeking for
some reliefs such as: a declaration that the invasion of the residence of
Justice Mary Okaego Peter Odili on the 29th say of October, 2021 situated
at No.7 Imo River Street, Maitaima, Abuja, by the operatives of the Respondents
with as search warrant is unconstitutional, unlawful, and null and void; a
declaration that the continuous harassment of Justice Mary and her family is an
abuse of power, unconstitutional, wrongful, and a gross violation of the
provisions of the constitution which protects her right. Amongst other reliefs
is a relief directing the Respondents to pay the sum of one billion naira.
ACER recalls that on the 29th day of October,
2021, news flooded the cyberspace that the residence of Her lordship, Hon.
Justice Mary Odili was invaded by men of the Nigeria Police Force due to a
search warrant issued by a Chief Magistrate in Abuja.
