The Channels Television
has been suspended by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for what was
described as breaching the broadcast code.
The suspension was
communicated to the station via a letter signed by the Acting Director-General of
the Commission, NBC, Prof. Armstrong Idachaba for allowing a leader of IPOB to
make inciting statements on air contrary to broadcast code on 25th
April, 2021. The suspension attracted a hopping sum of N5 million.
Recall that this
suspension is coming at a time when the courts in Nigeria are on strike. One
may begin to wonder what Channels TV may most likely do. Assuming courts are
not on strike, perhaps the suspension would have been challenged, but this is
practically impossible.
Should the strike
continue? Is the government not winning the battle? Is the Executive even affected by it? Drop your comments on the
comment session.
